Fiefs within Ennerdale Bailiwick and Liberty

These are Fiefs that are owned by the Lord of the Bailiwick.  These may be awarded temporarily to distinguished recipients.

  1. Fief of Crag Fell Seal1
    • Named after the majestic fell forming the southern wall of the valley. 
  2. Fief of Bowness Knott 
    • Inspired by the wooded promontory overlooking Ennerdale Water. 
  3. Fief of Revelin Crag 
    • A dramatic outcrop near the eastern valley wall—suitable for a noble family of scouts or watchers. 
  4. Fief of Smithy Beck 
    • Centered on the stream and old woodland paths—perfect for a keeper of tools or the forge. 
  5. Fief of Gillerthwaite 
    • A noble farmstead fief near the heart of the valley—suitable for a baronial steward. 
  6. Fief of Red Pike 
    • Named after the fierce peak guarding the southwest border of the forest—linked to warriors or hunters. 
  7. Fief of Herdus 
    • For a watchful hill and grazing land—traditional sheepfold heritage. 
  8. Fief of Floutern Tarn 
    • High mountain lake and bogland—mystical and remote. 
  9. Fief of Lingmell Hollow 
    • A deep dell shrouded in ferns and larch—associated with lore and healers. 
  10. Fief of Pillar Rock 
  • One of the highest and most imposing crags—fit for a noble rockwarden or mountaineer line. 
  1. Fief of Low Gillerthwaite 
  • Historic lowland farm and retreat—ideal for a contemplative or scholastic fief. 
  1. Fief of Side Farm 
  • Simple but noble name for an ancient stewardial holding along the fellside. 
  1. Fief of Moss Dub 
  • Based on mossy wetland and spring—linked to natural magic, herbs, or healing. 
  1. Fief of Haycock Ridge 
  • Named for the fell near the boundary, good for a banneret of the western frontier. 
  1. Fief of Lank Rigg 
  • A place of solitude and cairns, ancient site for a quiet noble line or bard. 
  1. Fief of Ennerdale Bridge 
  • A central and strategic crossing—seat of civic authority or trade. 
  1. Fief of Tom Rudd Beck 
  • A waterway surrounded by alder and hawthorn—keeper of streams. 
  1. Fief of Boathouse Wood 
  • Lakeside woodland, suitable for the Admiral or Water Steward of Ennerdale. 
  1. Fief of Bleaberry Knott 
  • Named for a hill where berries and heather grow—ideal for a herbalist or ranger. 
  1. Fief of Iron Crag 
  • Associated with ancient mineral rights, smithcraft, and protection of the realm. 

These fief names can be granted symbolically, ceremonially, or administratively within the Ennerdale Bailiwick to honor local persons, dignitaries, scholars, or contributors to the liberty.
